Launch schedule updated

Our meeting last night was quite productive, so I'm happy to say that we have a lot to communicate to our membership. This is the first of three posts that should be going out today.

We have updated the launch schedule to add our monthly model rocket launches in Buder Park. We will mostly keep to the same schedule as last year, when we set a launch date for the Saturday following the monthly meeting (which put it on either the second or third Saturday of the month), with a couple of exceptions:

  • Due to conflicts with a couple of other events, the April launch is scheduled for April 23rd.
  • Since the regular launch day in July falls on the weekend before NARAM 58 begins, I am listing that event as tentative because a lot of people will probably be busy preparing for that event.

Please see the event calendar for details, including a lengthy discussion of the insurance and safety restrictions that go along with our park launches. If you've flown with us in the past, it will be nothing surprising, but we want to make sure everyone understands the rules - particularly that all flyers must be current paid NAR or Tripoli members to be covered by liability insurance, and this in turn is a requirement to participate directly in the launch. People who are not NAR or Tripoli members will not be permitted to fly their own rockets, although they can hand them over to NAR/Tripoli members to inspect and fly on their behalf. Non-NAR/Tripoli members will also be asked to sign a liability release.

If you have any questions about the event, please email admin@stlouisrocketry.com. And as always, check the website for up-to-date status on the day of the event before heading out. If you expect to arrive later than 11:00 am, please call (314) 630-7619 to make sure the range is still open - we will continue to fly past noon as long as the weather is good, the battery holds out, and people have rockets to fly.
