August 15 Buder Park launch is GO

At this week's meeting, we discussed the upcoming park launch scheduled for Saturday August 15, and we are GO for launch! As always, please check stlouisrocketry.com for status updates before going to the park.

Setup will begin around 8:30 am and we plan to start flying around 9:00 am. The current weather forecast for Saturday looks very good, with sunny skies and low wind. Although the summer heat is starting to taper off, please remember to prepare for warm weather and bring your sunscreen and drinking water.

As always, the more people who can help set up and tear down, the easier it is on everyone.

As before, we will be collecting launch fees from members and non-members. The fee is $3.00 per person or family, which covers as many flights as you care to make. We accept cash at the launch field, or a PayPal payment to admin@stlouisrocketry.com. If you pay in advance via PayPal, please be able to show us your PayPal receipt (either on paper or on a smartphone/tablet).

We still have a limited number of SLRA shirts for sale, and can accept cash or PayPal as payment from anyone who would like to make a purchase. The orange SLRA ball caps are now SOLD OUT.

Please note that due to our insurance regulations and requirements of St. Louis County Parks, only current members of the National Association of Rocketry or Tripoli Rocketry Association are permitted to fly rockets at our launches. If you are not a member of one of these two organizations, you can still bring your rockets to the park, but a NAR or Tripoli member will have to supervise the preparation of your rocket and then fly it for you using our launch equipment. NAR membership can be obtained online at http://www.nar.org/. Membership is not required if you just want to watch the flights, though. If you are not a NAR or Tripoli member, you will be asked to sign a liability release before participating in the launch. Parents or guardians must sign for children under 18.

We look forward to seeing you at the launch!

July 18 Buder Park launch is GO

At last night's meeting, we discussed the upcoming park launch scheduled for Saturday July 18, and we are GO for launch! As always, please check stlouisrocketry.com for status updates before going to the park.

Setup will begin around 8:30 am and we plan to start flying around 9:00 am. Due to the predicted hot weather in the afternoon, this launch may be shorter than usual - we may end before noon rather than after noon, depending on how many people attend and how many rockets we have to fly. As always, the more people who can help set up and tear down, the easier it is on everyone.

PLEASE remember to bring sunscreen and drinking water. It will be very hot and sunny, and likely quite humid. While the launch pads will be out in the sun, there should be plenty of shade nearby for people to set up their preparation areas.

As before, we will be collecting launch fees from members and non-members. The fee is $3.00 per person or family, which covers as many flights as you care to make. We accept cash at the launch field, or a PayPal payment to admin@stlouisrocketry.com. Photos from June 13 Launch, courtesy of Steve Cox

SLRA Member Steve Cox shared these photos from last Saturday's launch in Buder Park. The orange rocket is Heino Pull's 3D-printed Twister of Death, the red and white rocket is Michael Rouse's Heatseeker, and the copper and white rocket is my Mega Mosquito (which cato'ed, but will be repairable). Thanks for the photos, Steve! If anyone else has photos or videos that they'd like to share with the club, please email me at danno@danno.org.

Buder Park Launch Wrap-up

Thanks to everyone who came out to the park to fly rockets with us today! The weather was better than expected (better than I expected, anyway), and, although we unfortunately did sacrifice a couple of rockets to the Meramec River, we met several new club members and everyone had a good time. The range was open from 9:00 am to noon, and we had a total of 24 flights from eight flyers.

I spoke with a couple of people who said they had photos they would like to share with the club. Please email photos to me at danno@danno.org and I will post them here. Thanks!

Buder Park launch is still GO

The weather looks as if it's going to be clear through the morning, so the launch is still GO and I will be heading to the park shortly to start setting up the launch equipment. Setup starts at 8:30 and flying should start around 9:00. (Google Maps link for Buder Park)

It will be hot and humid today, so please remember to bring drinking water and sunscreen.

The chance of rain, along with the heat/humidity, increase as we get into the afternoon. We don't set an end time for our launches - we just fly until we're "done" based on weather and what participants want to do. Please arrive earlier rather than later to make sure you get in on the fun!
