2022 SLRA Spooktacular Night Launch Event

The 2022 SLRA Spooktacular event was a BIG success.  What a great turnout.  We even had youth show up fully costumed.  My favorite was the walking inflatable T-Rex. Thanks to all who made it a smashing success!!!   HUGE Kudos to Dave Pape for LCOing the entire evening.  Big SHOUT-OUT as well to those who assisted with the youth Take it/Fly it rockets, the Hot Dog grilling feast and put-up/take-down of the launch equipment.  Also, a BIG THANKS to Shawn Faulkingham for providing the generator so we could have a lit pavilion.   I'm looking forward to seeing the photos and videos taken by Fred Cronenwett (GLSMA President) and Carmelo Turdo (Aero Experience). If you have pictures, please send them to me so I can get them posted on our website (secretary@stlouisrocketry.com). The photo below was taken by Carmelo Turdo during the Apollo 17 50th Anniversary Commemoration Launch Reenactment Event.

Saturday Buder Park All Fly Day was a Huge Success!!

Saturn V Lifts Off from Pad 39 during the Apollo 11 Launch Reenactment

This past Saturday's Buder Park All Fly Day was well attended. There were 18 rocketeers to showed-up ready to pierce the sky. Of the 18 launching rockets 5 were accompanied by a parent. In all we had 82 launches. We had one Lego Conversion Challenge partipant, Joel Weston. Unfortunately, his two launch attempts of his Lego Rocket were unsuccessful, one due to faulty AeroTech engine prep and the other due to too long of a delay charge. On his first attempt, the engine cato'd just after ignition due to an o-ring being improperly placed on the engine nozzle end of the motor.. Fortunately, the damage was minimal. On his second attempt, the Lego rocket flew to perfection but the delay charge was too long on the Estes E-9 motor, causing the shock cord to separate from the booster due to the high velocity the rocket was traveling at the time of parachute deployment. I'm hoping Joel can Lego it back together and fly it at our October 1st Buder Park Launch.

I believe we had near equal number of spectators as participants. They were treated to two spectacular Launch Reenactments from my scale replica of Launch Pad Complex 39, Apollo 11 and Saturn/Skylab. GSLMA President Fred Cronenwett captured a great photo of the Saturn V lifting off the launch pad during the Apollo 11 Launch Reenactment.

Fred mentioned he took several photos during our event. Once he sends them to me, I'll be sure to post them on the SLRA website. Notice to all who attended All Fly Day - If have photos you took during the event and would like to share them, please email me your photos and I'll be sure to post them as well.

Saturday’s Buder Park All Fly Event Start Time delayed until Noon Due to Cross Country Meet.

I just received this email from GSLMA President Fred Cronenwett:

This coming weekend we are having our Buder Park Fun Fly for Rockets, Fixed RC, Helicopters, Control Line and Quads. All areas of the park will be doing something. So what ever you fly there will be a place to fly. Let's see how many models we can get down there on Saturday!

We will have a late start on the 27th due to a cross country track meet that got scheduled by the County on the same day from 8am - 12 Noon. Plan on arriving early enough to get your models set up but the rockets and the RC area won't be able to fly until 12 noon. I don't know if the runners will be coming thru the CL area or not, we will see. After 12 noon they will run away and we can fly!

Let's plan on Set-up from Noon - 1:00 and Open Range from 1:00 - 6:00 pm

Anyone interested in meeting at Cracker Barrell for Brunch at 10:00. Send me an email response if you're interested

Happy Rocketeering! Dave Kovar

Buder Park All Fly Event is Go for Saturday

Great news everyone for today’s launch!!!

We have the RC Pavilion reserved for today’s SLRA Sport Launch.

As a result, there’s a slight change in the start time:

Set-up start time has been moved to 3:30. I’ve kept the start of Open-Range time at 4:00. Let’s hope for no glitches getting our launch and audio equipment set-up.

There’s a permanent grill at the pavilion so let’s have our first ever Dog Day Grill-n-Fly launch event. Bring your favorite hot dogs, buns and condiments and let’s feast. There’s also a 12 volt charging station at the pavilion that we have available to us as well.
